24/7 Prayer Team

We are focusing our current efforts on fortifying our prayer team.  We need God to intervene in big ways, and the only way He will move is if we ask Him!

If you are willing to fill a time slot during week and commit to praying for us at least for that 30 minute slot we would be grateful.  Here is the link for you to sign up for the 24/7 Prayer Team.  This is a weekly commitment.

We are aware of the immensity of this request.  But as Moses needed Aaron and Hur to hold up his hands so God could bring the victory for Joshua and his men- so we need you to hold us up in prayer.  We know God has called us to Uganda.  We know He is calling men and women to send us.  We know He has great things in store for us as we serve Him faithfully.  Will you pray?

If you want up to the minute prayer requests check twitter @knees4kampala or the 24/7 Prayer Room

Fast Thursday: Tomorrow!

"A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea...And Jehoshaphat feared, and set himself to seek the Lord, and proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. So Judah gather together to ask help from the Lord...

"O our God... we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You."

"Thus says the Lord to you: 'Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not your, but God's... You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem! Do not fear or e dismayed; tomorrow go out against them for the Lord is with you." -2 Chronicles 20: 2-4, 12, 15, 17

These are hard days for non-profits. It is tough to raise funds for the mission field in this financial climate. But if we focus on these facts we do not have the mind of Christ. Thursday as we fast and pray- let us fix our eyes on God who has already won the victory, who has been faithful in the past and who is with us today. He is willing and ready to fight for us- but we must ask. We must storm heaven with our petitions. We must sacrifice that which is dear to us (food, internet, TV) and show God how serious we are about fighting on behalf of His world!

Will you join us in fasting and praying? We covet your prayers for Uganda- but Delanco Camp is also heavy on our hearts! Thanks for standing with us!

Fast Thursday is coming!

I got a beautiful e-mail devotional through Titus Women's Ministry this morning that really got me motivated for our Fast Thursday! Praying that it would be a blessing to you as well! The author of this devotional, Aletha Hinthorn, blogs HERE.

Nancy's Secret to Intimacy With God
Aletha HinthornDuring the four years Nancy lived in the mountains of Vietnam as a single missionary, she read a biography of David Brainerd, a missionary to the American Indians. She became fascinated with his way of communion with God through fasting and prayers. She realized she had a deep longing to know God intimately and so began spending every Saturday on the quiet hills alone with God for meditation and prayer without food.

God also used the story of Moses talking with God face to face while fasting to motivate her. As Nancy began to fast, she identified more and more with Job's words: "I have treasured the words of your mouth more than my daily bread" (23:12). She, too, felt she could say, "I desire to hear your voice so much that I don't even care about food."

Nancy discovered she receives many benefits through fasting. She listed a few for me.
The Scriptures become alive to me.
I gain an increasing love for the lost.
I gain more patience with people.
I discover the will of God more easily.
I find it is easier to discipline other areas in life.
The Spirit inspires my prayers.
I see many answers to prayer.
The hush of His nearness thrills my heart.

As Nancy begins her fast, she focuses on the Lord--who He is, not on what she wants Him to do. She takes time to delight herself in Him, to contemplate His attributes, and to worship Him with humility. This is different from supplication and thanksgiving. It is simply adoration. She quotes someone who said, "As I meditate, the fire burns and my soul soars in adoration to God."

Dear Lord, thank You for giving us fasting through which we can become more intimate with You.

"Anna...worshiped night and day, fasting and praying" (Luke 2:37).

Update

Just wanted to give you a quick update and continue to ask for your prayers. We have crossed the 50% mark in our funding and are praising Jesus for this! The sad news is that this week we have no new pledges. God is good and we are trusting in His provision. Please keep praying that by the end of October we are fully funded. Impossible in our eyes but clearly possible in Gods!

In other news our summer has been crazy busy and yet so encouraging. We were able to spend quite sometime at Delanco which we love and our boys have fallen in love with. God truly worked in our lives during our time there and we enjoyed partnering with many others who were serving Jesus. We were also able to visit an awesome Camp Meeting in Rhode Island called Portsmouth Camp Meeting. These people were truly amazing and were such a blessing and encouragement to us. After we shared during the evening service on Thursday they all surrounded us at the altar and prayed over us and our families. God was so good to us!

We are home for 2 1/2 weeks before leaving for Colorado for over a month! We would love to connect with as many of you as possible before we leave. We also would love to set up a time to meet with you and some friends in a small group to share about our ministry in Uganda. This is one way you can support us that would be so HUGE to us. Let us know if you are able to get a group together either before we leave for Colorado or after we come home (mid-October). Also, if we haven't been to your home church and you think you could "get us in" let me know. We would love to connect with your pastor/missions committee.

Let us know how we can be praying for you and your family. Keep our boys in prayer as they enjoy some home time before leaving again (and we begin potty training in earnest).

Ugliness dying

my journal is at the camper... no numbers this week at Delanco Camp... but still much gratitude. He is doing a new thing in me. A dying thing. Dead to self, alive in Him. And I am grateful for the ugliness He is killing. I am grateful for the life He is birthing in me.

-each frustration that gives me opportunity to choose others ahead of myself
-each violation of my rights that prompts surrender
-His life
-death of self
-becoming more like Him
-lifting my hands in praise and surrender
-little boys praising Jesus in the tabernacle
- Seth's little voice in the microphone: "You are holy... You are mighty... I will listen... I will love You..."
-not getting my own way- teaching me to trust His goodness in choosing for me
- answers to prayer
-new pledges
-His faithfulness. so faithful.
