In addition to our good news of the day, the Christmas story is full of good tidings of great joy... so it should come as no surprise that the prophets also foretold of good tidings!
Today's reading: Isaiah 40:1-11
"O Zion, You who bring good tidings, get up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, you who bring good tidings; lift up your voice with strength, lift it up and be not afraid; say to the cities of Judah, "Behold your God!" -Isaiah 40:9
The angels brought these same good tidings to the shepherds on that Holy Night... do you feel those same good tidings of great joy welling in your soul this Christmas season? Perhaps you are a little too busy to hear them. Perhaps you are a little bored by this story that is read every year at this time. But do you realize that there are some who have never heard these good tidings? There are some who do not know this glorious story! Oh how my heart breaks for the men and women rushing about from store to store buying gifts to satisfy some inner void- decorating their homes for the satisfaction of knowing theirs is the nicest house on the block- attending every Christmas party in hopes of connecting at a heart level with another person, only to find that everyone else is as guarded as they are... this season is full of lights and love... but it is only satisfying when we celebrate the True Light and the One Love.
Today as you go about your daily tasks- make a point to strike up conversation about the real meaning of Christmas. We are celebrating the greatest love story ever told- and we dare not keep it to ourselves. It is a season of giving, and so let's give the best gift ever- the gift of the gospel to those walking in darkness!
Full of good tidings,
Kelly
