"And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith." -Galatians 6:9-10So, how do we "not grow weary while doing good"? I'm not sure I have all the answers. Just a few thoughts before I head to bed (before 10pm!):
- Keep the Sabbath. I don't know what that means for you, but Mark Buchanan's Golden Rule of Sabbath is: "Cease from that which is necessary. And embrace that which gives life." You may not have a whole day to do that- but anything is better than none!
- Savor the sweet spots in your day. Maybe you can linger over that cup of coffee just a minute. Really taste it. Let the aroma fill your senses. Give thanks. Maybe the sunset is just a work of art. Stop and just drink in the beauty. Maybe your little one runs up to give you a hug. Don't brush that off- pull him a little tighter and don't let go til he squirms. Those sweet spots are a gift from a good Father. He knows just what you need- you just need to receive it.
- Go to bed. Our bodies are frail and human. God designed us to need rest. So even if it means leaving some things undone. Go to bed at a decent hour- you'll feel much more ready to tackle those looming projects in the morning.
- Stay connected to the Vine. Without Him we.can.do.nothing. I haven't got this all figured out, this abiding thing. But one thing I know- on my own I've got nothing. So if it's a verse to carry with me through the day to keep returning to, or a breath prayer to keep whispering- I've got to stay connected to Him.
What do you do to recharge? How do you "not grow weary while doing good"?
I very much enjoyed you homemade mission series. Thank you!
